Lent begins March 6

Lent begins Wednesday, March 6th

Prior to our 40 days of Lent, we will celebrate the eve of Ash Wednesday on Tuesday, March 5th with our traditional Mardi Gras Party.   This Fat Tuesday celebratuon will be held from 6-8pm.  Gumbo, jumbalya, hot dogs and drink will be served starting at 6pm.   Those families who will be participating should bring the following foods: A-M side dish, N-Z desserts.  Please RSVP by Friday, March 1st to the office 683-0689.

We will observe the first day of Lent, (Ash Wednesday) March 6th  with Mass and distribution of ashes at 7am, 1:45pm (with OCMS students), and 5:30pm.   Those over the age of 18 are reminded  of the rules of fasting and abstinence:  Ash Wednesday is one of two yearly days of obligatory fasting and abstinence for Roman Catholics, along with Good Friday. According to the USCCB, the norms of fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59.  Fasting means a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but they are not to equal that of a full meal.  The rule of abstinence from meat on all the Fridays of Lent is binding upon Catholics aged 14 and onwards.

As Lent is a season of penance, parishioners are encouraged to give alms, fast, and pray.  Immaculate will be providing families with The Little Black Book, a prayer guide for Lent.   Also, parishioners can take the opportunity to view Dr. Edward Sri's new series, NO GREATER LOVE, A Biblical Walk through Christ's Passion.   It will be shown Mondays at 10am or Mondays at 6:30pm beginning Monday, March 11th for five weeks.  And small groups are gathering to discuss the Matthew Kelly book: The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity".  Please see Diane Wilis if interested in being part of small group discussion.

Immaculate will pray the Stations of the Cross weekly on Fridays at 6pm beginning March 8th.  Join us for a solemn 1/2 hour remembering Christ's journey to Calvary.   On March 22, a meatless soup supper will be served following the Stations.

The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity

Did you enjoy your Christmas present of the Matthew Kelly book, The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity?   Hope so!   This Lent we plan on getting small groups together to discuss this book.  Read it through between now and early March so you can add to the group discussion.
